Sunday Spam: IsaDora Love!

Happy Sunday! Today I have a whole bunch of IsaDora polishes for you that I wore recently. Technicalities upfront: 2 coats each.

756-Coral Reef* is a vibrant orange. My camera hates orange, so this looks a bit washed out. Great orange creme, and as I recently decided that I like orange (in summer!), one that I’ll be wearing a lot (and surely on my toes!).
Isadora 756 coral reef_1

757-Scuba Blue* is a fun blue creme – somewhere between sky blue and periwinkle. It applies heavenly, so if you like this color, you should consider getting this. I loved wearing it, and it is also in my top summer colors.
IsaDora 757 Scuba Blue_1_1

758-Aquatic* was another win for me. It’s a dark blue creme but it looks and dries like a jelly. It’s lighter than OPI Roadhouse Blues, but still a very dark blue. It reminds me of ink… Great base for nail art too!
IsaDora 758 Aquatic_1_1

759-Atlantis*  is a turquoise/sea foam green creme. It is also very vibrant, and a great summer color. I feel stupid writing this all over again, but I really liked it, and I think it’s a very good quality creme polish.
IsaDora 759 Atlantis_2_1

805-Spraycan Blue* (over Coral Reef) is a dark blue crackle polish. All the crackles look a bit different, some burst open and leave a wide gap, while others crackle a bit more shy. This one is one of the latter, and I wore it a couple of times, but I’m rather over the crackle look.
isadora 805 spraycan blue_Isadora 756 coral reef_1

851-Gun Metal* is an olive green gold magnetic polish. I originally was head over heels for this polish – the color is totally what I love – but then slowly my love for magnetic polishes started fading, and I lost a bit of interest. Never the less, if you love this, all the IsaDora magnetic polishes I tried were worth the money.
IsaDora 851 Gun Metal_1_1

Candy Floss is a sheer whiteish pink – I get the feeling lately, that these sheer mikly polishes are having a come-back, and as much as I try to wrap my head around that, it is just not for me. Sheer and VNL after two coats? No thank you.
Isadora Candy Floss

Opal* (over essence walk on the wild side) – a sheer polish with shimmer that really comes to life over black. Not only do sheer polishes celebrate a comeback, so do these topcoats. I’m not the biggest fan, neither was I a big fan of the CND topcoats, which offer the same effect. I have one that shimmers blue, and gives me a feeling of luxury, because it’s from YSL. Hence I didn’t really need another. If you, however, don’t have anything like this yet, the shimmer particles in Opal were very dense and if you don’t mind VNL, you can wear this alone as well.

How I wore it: El Corazon Eggs of Wild Birds and Easter Eggs polishes

So what happens when one makes pictures for a certain event and then the pictures aren’t used? One shows them to you guys. You’ll appreciate my crazy metallic blue lips and awkward poses, I’m sure.

Today I’m showing you some El Corazon polishes, which I received from their PR. I’m super excited about those Eggs of Wild Birds polishes and Easter Eggs polishes that they have, so this is going to be a biased review: I already knew I’d love the look!

El Corazon 423/102* (turquoise), El Corazon 423/101* (yellow) – those are both from the Easter eggs collection. El Corazon 423/96* (white) and  El Corazon 423/91* (taupe) are from the Eggs of wild birds collection. The pink is Cult Nails Devious Nature.

El Corazon is a russian brand. It’s pretty much as cool as Dance Legend, plus they also have holos, and glitter, and the whole shabang. The Eggs of wild birds and Easter eggs polishes apply like a dream, dry quickly and glossy, and are generally pretty cool. Plus I really love the look, so I was sold even before I tried them.

For my absolutely everyday makeup, I decided to paint my nails in a beautiful blue paste I made with a pigment from Inglot (really simple: it’s the electric blue pigment, readily available at Inglot stores) and Sealing Gel from Illamasqua. Let me tell you, it was a b**** to remove.
El Corazon 423_102 (turquoise) 423_101 (yellow) easer eggs_423_96 (white) 423_91 (taupe) eggs of wild birds)cult nails devious nature_1

People who passed me by were all smiling. I wonder why. I’d totally wear this look everyday if it wouldn’t make me afraid of my own image in the mirror or give me a beautiful floater-aura. I’m wearing btw: pants from WE, t-shirt H&M, shoes Cate Grey, sunglasses Marc Jacobs.
El Corazon 423_102 (turquoise) 423_101 (yellow) easer eggs_423_96 (white) 423_91 (taupe) eggs of wild birds)cult nails devious nature_5

I wish it was this sunny again! I know I will complain about the heat once it’s there, but now I’m busy complaining about the constant rain.

Sunday Spam: So many green indie polishes!

For this fine Sunday, I have some indie polishes to show to you. I sorted them completely arbitrary by color, so today all I show you is green.

Hare Polish Supernova Springs (2 coats over Cult Nails Feelin’ Froggy) is part of my every once in a while indie swap with T. where we exchange a handful of polishes so the other can try them and see if it’s worth the cash. This one, even though pretty and fine application-wise, didn’t do anything to me. I think it is just too dark.
Cult Nails Feelin Froggy_hare polish supernova springs_1_1

Different Dimension Irish you well (1 coat over p2 crazy about green), is a white jelly polish filled with green and gold glitters. Layering white jelly polishes over colors can turn out horrible, believe me, I tried. This one however looks nice over green. I had good experiences with most of my different dimension polishes, and I have ordered from Missi’s Shop more than once.

Different Dimension Sparkles like Edward * (1 coat over L’oreal New Money) is a sheer milky polish with intense pink shimmer and multicolor glitter. You can find my original review here.

Different Dimension work hard play harder* (2 coats over Zoya Meg) is a very unique green (and I didn’t have to layer it over anything, it covers perfectly fine in 2 coats) that is part moss and part fir tree green, with some blue shimmer mixed in it. Cool color!

ILNP  (I love Nail Polish) Up to snow good (1 coat over IsaDora 759 Atlantis)  is a glitter topper consisting of white and turquoise glitters in so many shapes and sizes, I can’t even start to tell you all about them. The application is good, and recently Barbra changed the formula of the base, so I hope the new ones won’t be as stinky!

Lush Lacquer just chill in’ (1 coat; first picture over color club perfet mol-ten, second picture over SpaRitual energy) was the worst disappointment for me. I bought this and another Lush Lacquer to try them out (they sell 2 minis of your choice for a reasonable price, perfect to try them out), and I really didn’t like it. I saw it on some blogs before I bought it and it looked so pretty and amazing and what have you, but in reality the color combination is, to say the least, difficult, and it is really sheer and when it is dry you still have to add two coats of topcoat to make it look nice and smooth. Not my cup of tea.

Lynnderella she lived in a swamp ( 1 coat over Finger Paints Silkscreen Green) – most toxic combination I’ve ever worn. Wow. Green glitter over neon green is quite something. I have a handful of Lynnderellas, and I love the glitter combinations, but all of the bar glitters curl and they are the worst pain to remove. If anyone dupes them in a better formula, I’m all yours (but please keep the bottle shape, it’s my favorite bottle!). PS: See the difference? Left is she lived in a swamp – old version, and right is the new version. Totally different…. not.

sonoma nail art Mustard fields (1 coat over essence i’m the moss) – I didn’t think I was going to like this as much as I do, because it seemed to me that there was too much yellow glitter in the mix. Once I put it on I realized that that was not the case – the polish is very well balanced, color-wise. You can find green, yellow and black glitters in there (bars, squares, circles, and even flower shaped ones!) and the bar glitters don’t curl! Yay! Slowly sonoma nail art is developing into my glitter love no 1, taking lynnderella’s place, but I’m still undecided about Cirque… hm. Very difficult decisions.

Whimsical ideas by pam Peas on Earth (1 coat over Catrice The army glow) is the first nail polish by whimsical ideas by pam that I tried. I love this weird green with red and blue and gold glitter, It looks kind of ugly in the bottle but I really loved it on my nails. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for other whimsical polishes that I like, as this one applied like a dream and, I’m sorry to admit that I’m so easily convinced, but it has a bow tie around the bottle neck.

What’s your favorite indie polish? I want to try out more, but I’m always a bit cautious because some that I bought were such a waste of money.

ABSOLUTE nails Summer Collection

Heeeelllo everyone. I’m having a very good day, I hope so do you!

Today I want to show you the summer collection from ABSOLUTE nails, which is Douglas’ very own nail polish line. Most of their polishes are spot-on dupes for famous Chanel polishes, so to say Chanel-on-a-budget. ABSOLUTE nails nail polishes retail for ~5EUR.

First up is Blue Starfish, which is an amazing medium blue. I don’t own nails inc baker street, but this made me think of it immediately. The polish is uber-pigmented, and it applies so easily, I never thought you’d get that much service from a drugstore nail polish brand. 2 coats.
douglas blue starfish_1

Fame and Fortune is somewhere between turquoise and sea foam green. It is also very bright and applies easily. I was amazed how glossy all these polishes dry even without a topcoat. Two thumbs up!
Douglas Fame and Fortune_1

White beach is by far my favorite from this bunch. I’m always looking for a white that doesn’t apply chalky or patchy, and I think I have finally found it. White Beach is opaque in 2 coats, dries quickly and super glossy and I had absolutely no application problems. Instant Love!

All three polishes were sent to me for review. Thanks to the douglas PR Team!

Sunday Spam: Finger Paints

Happy Sunday!

I hope you have a lazy Sunday and that you can enjoy yourself and sit in the sun, etc. I also hope that I’ll find the time to do that! Today I have a lot of Finger Paints nail polishes to show you. Some of them I wore but couldn’t photograph in a How I Wore It post, some of them I wore and had no intention of picturing with my outfit (say, pajama or gym clothes…), so I’m showing them to you in the good old swatch style.

Comet’s Collar (over Sally Hansen Get in Lime) – sheer green shimmer/micro particle glitter polish, very pretty but I’d prefer it to be less sheer. Wearing it on its own didn’t seem an option, so I layered two coats over Get in Lime.

15 minutes of fame – now that’s one of a kind. This is a neon turquoise that completely ruined my camera’s lens – it is so intense, it makes my camera freak out. Also it makes my skin look tomato red in pictures, and Snowhite white in reality. A fun polish that I prefer to wear on my toes! 2 coats.
finger paints 15 minutes of fame_1

Cupcake heaven is a pretty standard baby blue. It didn’t strike me as particularly unique or interesting, but it is very cute. I had some application issues with it, but after 3 coats it was fine.
finger paints cupcake heaven_1

Gimme some sugar is a coral creme polish. It looks really nice and summery in the bottle, but horrible against my skin tone. It makes me so sad that coral looks so bad on me. 2 coats.
finger paints gimme some sugar_1

Grape Gumball is a great purple. It has silver shimmery micro particles hidden in a warm medium purple (with enough blue in there! yay!), which make the polish look  happy and shiny. 2 coats.
finger paints grape gumball_3

Pop Art Purple is more of a magenta than a purple. It is very intense, I think it can also be called neon, and I like that it looks so extremely squishy. 2 coats.
Finger Paints Pop Art Purple_2

Silkscreen Green is a horribly toxic looking green neon. I love to look at colors like this in twilight, it’s mesmerizing how nuclear this polish glows. Hence, two pictures with very little lightening to show you this polish properly. I used two coats.
Finger Paints Silkscreen Green_2

Warhol Wannabe is another neon polish. I couldn’t catch it’s real color, as it was just too much for my poor camera! It dries to a satin finish, as most neons. I like it in this case, it somehow makes this polish more pop art. 2 coats. (First picture with flash).
finger paints warhol wannabe_1

Inkblot blue is, as the name suggests, a blue polish. In Austria ink looks a bit darker, but still, this is a pretty blue. I think it is supposed to be neon too, because it dries with a similar satin finish, but I don’t think this can really be called neon. Fun color though! 2 coats.FingerPaints Inkblot Blue_1

Sunday SPAM: flormar mattes

Recently, B. and I were shopping a bit, and we came across a whole new-to-us line from flormar. The flormar line made quite an impression on us with their super miracle shine polishes, so we were excited to try out these mattes!

flormars have exciting names, such as this one: flormar M03. It’s witty, thoughtful and cheeky, without being improper, don’t you think?
Application-wise, they were all super quick drying. They feel like chalkboard when you touch them, and they are safe to touch after 4-5 minutes (we’re talking two coats here, not one). I applied two coats of each of the polishes.

flormar M03 is a matte (surprise!) charcoal grey. It is so dark it could be mistaken for a washed out black. (I’m so funny today, I don’t know what happened!) Lovely color, especially in matte.
flormar M03_1

flormar M04 is what I’d call the color of how I want the sea to look like when I go on vacation to the Maledives (I’ve never been, nor am I planning on going anytime soon – that is, unless I win the lottery). It is beautiful. It is also amazing matte, so this polish was a complete winner in my books. The soft color is enhanced by the soft finish, which gives it sort of a cozy hue.
flormar M04_1

flormar M09 is the opposite of soft. It’s preppy neon pink, extremely bright and an amazing toe nail polish for summer. I would love to be at a beach right now, sip some beach cocktail with a lot of fruit and tiny umbrellas and other stuff that doesn’t belong in a serious person’s drink, and have this nail polish on my toes.
flormar M09_1

The only  polish that didn’t fully satisfy me was flormar M10. It was a bit thinner than the others, and I think I should have applied a third coat. I don’t like the color all too much, but it’s nice. I think I’d have preferred it if it had some shimmer in it.
flormar M10_1

In retrospective, flormar M12 wouldn’t have been hurt by a third coat either. I adore the color. It’s such an elegant deep blue (is it prussian blue?), absolutely amazing. I wish I had a dress in that color.flormar M12_1

Did you pick up any of these?

Sunday Spam: new essence, green & blue

Finally I managed to put together another Sunday Spam for you!

In the last month, I swatched some essence colors from their new and renewed color & go line. Today I have 8 of the blues and greens for you!

essence I love bad boys is a medium blue shimmer. 2 coats, formula was fine.
essence i love bad boys_1

essence I’m bluetiful – one of the colors I hoped would be the most fun, as it is a periwinkle creme with tiny silver shard glitters. It was a pain to apply, much to thick, and if you don’t wait for one coat to be completely dry, there will be dragging. 2 coats.
essence i'm bluetiful

essence I’m the boss – same idea as I’m bluetiful here, but a much darker base color. The glitter shards look more golden in this polish, but I’m not sure if it is the dark dusty purple that makes them appear that way. Same formula issues as above. 2 coats.
essence i'm the boss_1

essence L.O.L. is a lime green creme. I love lime green cremes, so that’s that. This one makes my skin look horrible, but I like the color. 2 coats – surprisingly, this one applied nicely.
essence L.O.L._1

essence that’s what I mint – let me not get started on the names again, just know that the new Catrice names are so much better. This polish is not really mint colored, it is more of a turquoise. 2 coats, formula was fine. essence did manage to improve the formula with cremes, if you ask me.
essence that's what I mint

essence upper green side – gorgeous color. Reminds me of a less intense version of Illamasqua Nomad – formula was good, 2 coats.
essence upper green side

The worst to photograph was essence Walk on the Wild Side. Dark greens and my skin tone do not like each other. I liked the green specks in there, but otherwise the color did nothing for me. It was a bit sheer and totally weird to apply: when it dried, it seemed to shrink, so I got tip wear from applying it. 3 coats.
essence walk on the wild side_1

essence we rock the green – this was also in my top picks, it is just so vibrant! It’s a medium grass green with intense gold shimmer and what looks like teensy green glitter specks within. 2 coats, formula was good!
essence we rock the green_1

essence Oz – The Great and Powerful TE

essence is trying its best to be the OPI for the small purse lately. They announced a collaboration with Justin Bieber (…), they released a Snow White TE and now they put out a Wizard of Oz TE. I wonder what will be next?

Let me start off by saying that all these polishes are crackles. We know that crackles aren’t necessarily a new thing, but as they say, good news travels fast, and logically, bad news travels slowly, so no wonder that a year after the crackles were cool, essence releases a whole collection.

good witch is a super new absolutely innovative gold crackle. I layered it over flormar M12. It crackles nicely, and to be honest, gold crackles are the ones I liked the most. So this one gets a pass!
essence good witch_flormarM12_1

delicate but determined is a navy shimmer crackle. The color in this picture is true to its real color, even though my fingers aren’t. I layered it over flormar M04. I wish this wasn’t a crackle polish, the color itself is beautiful.
essence delicate but determined_flormar M04_1

winds of change is mainly a song, if you ask me. Taaaaaaake me to the magic of the moment…etc, etc. Great song to sing along falsely and overly loud. The polish though is the opposite: red crackle. Never understood the benefit of red crackle. It looks horrible over pretty much any color. I layered it over flormar M03.
essence Winds of Change_flormar M03_1

master of illusion can’t fool me. The illusion of it being a nice turquoise/aqua creme shatters just like the polish itself. I layered it over flormar M09.
essence master of illusion_flormar M09_1

winged wonder is a peach/coral creme crackle. It crackles the least good of the bunch. I layered it over flormar M10.
essence winged wonder_flormar M10

Do you still like crackles? Or would you just get them because they are a Wizard of Oz TE?

How I wore it: Sephora by OPI Ocean Love Potion and Cover Band Sticks’n'Stones

Ah, holidays… the best days there are. Especially when I get to spend them in India (without an upset stomach, that is.)!

This vacation I decided to bring Sephora by OPI Ocean Love Potion with me, and of course, Cover Band Sticks’n'Stones. I took Sticks’n'Stones to Paris with me, and I realized that it is better than cement on your nails – it makes manicures last for days! That’s why it is now my travel polish. It may go whereever I go! (Let’s not forget the obvious fact that I like this polish and find it to match almost everything)SOPI_sticksnstones_0

Anyhow. This time around, we decided to visit Hampi. Hampi is a small village, in earlier times it was the capital of a whole kingdom, housing 100x more inhabitants than today. The temple area is huge, with temples spread out all over the hills, which are plastered with round granite rocks.SOPI_sticksnstones_3

We stayed in Hampi for two nights, so we’d have enough time to visit all the sights. In effect, one day of sightseeing is sufficient, if you stay on one side of the river. If you want to visit the temples on the other side of the river, you might want to add a day to your stay. SOPI_sticksnstones_2

About the polish: Sephora by OPI Ocean Love Potion is a darker turquoise creme, which looks just a little bit dusty. I applied two coats, it went on smoothly, and I didn’t have any application issues.SOPI_sticksnstones_1

Unfortunately, in the course of Hampi being declared a UNESCO world heritage site, the Indian Authorities decided to tear down the bazar in front of the temple - while that may be a good idea (provided all the laws were followed and the people were given compensation, both of which I have reason to doubt), it would have been a great idea to clean up the area. Instead, they just installed a provisional fence around the rubble (as if anyone would care that there is a fence!), and left if be for almost two years now. One’s gotta love good organisation.SOPI_sticksnstones_4

The temples are beautiful nevertheless. I love the form of those mughal archways, and the scenery is amazing. The whole area is a hilly valley, with temples and a broad riverbed. The second day we were there, we went to see the Hanuman (Monkeygod) temple, which is all the way on top of a hill overlooking the valley. SOPI_sticksnstones_5

The temple and view were wonderful, but let me tell you, climing the stairs up to the temple at noon is a horrible idea. I had literally turned into a water fountain when I reached the top. It was yucky. Also, there are too many monkeys on this hill! They steal the shop vendor’s bananas and run after the tourists. I don’t want to get rabies, so I’m crazy scared of the monkeys and scream while running away if they come to close.SOPI_sticksnstones_6

When I went to the temple, I had put on sticks’n'stones over Ocean Love Potion. Isn’t the view amazing? We climbed up all that way, and we were completely finished when we were on top; imagine having to climb this up all the way every other day!SOPI_sticksnstones_8

Oh and in case you were wondering, of course we couldn’t find anything without our guide book :) SOPI_sticksnstones_9

Worst polishes of 2012

While everybody else is out there praising their 2012  favourites, I decided to give you a random list of “worsts”! The main reason for this is that there are too many polishes I liked in 2012, and the other reason is that I enjoy being mean sometimes – and this will give me the perfect opportunity. You can disagree with me and let me know which polishes you didn’t like this year!

As a general info: Worst of 2012 refers to polishes I wore in 2012, not necessarily ones that were brought out in 2012. Let’s get started!

Pretty much everything from the Catrice Hidden World LE. brown, salmon and frosty white – no thank you!Catrice Hidden World_Wood You Follow Me

OPI Play the Peonies. Okay, so I liked Chanel Attraction, but this is also more pink. Frosty, white-ish pink. Brrr.OPI Play the Peonies (1)

Revlon Mint Gelato. Sheer dusty turquoise, unbearable smell (and I love mint!): overall performance could not convince (that was very diplomatic).Revlon Mint Gelato1

I like the idea of  NYX Precious Gems, but the execution lacks… skills? experience? love? ideas? Well, you pick.zoya marley_NYX precious gems1

Models Own Dusty Mauve - they name already gives this one away. Not much I can say or do that will make it cry harder.Models Own Dusty Mauve2

It pains me to say it, but Orly Artificial Sweetener only looks good in the bottle. I gave it chance after chance, but it just looks yuck on me. Even though it is pink!Orly Artificial Sweetener_unnamed franken2

essence Rebel Topcoat in Punk Royal  (and Catrice No smoke without fire): jelly black doesn’t work. AT ALL. Even if it has glitter in it. Ooooh I think these two might win the ugliest of ugly award.  Looks like black snot or slime over my nails! *shudders*essence rebel delight punk royal

OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes. This is not a decent or elegant version of brown, this is ugly. Same goes for Nubar Charmeuse -  just because Nubar makes it a bit more difficult to call this plain brown, it is freakishly boring (and ugly). And, a bit more mauve but still too brown for me: OPI Mauving to Manitoba. OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes

Glitter Gal Flawless Pink is everything but flawless. At least it’s holographic, but it’s definitely not flawless (and, to be honest, it’s not much pink either).glitter gal flawless pink1

MAC Style Clan - poop brown with orange glitter – it can’t get much worse. Oh, wait! Short nails make it look extra bad. I don’t even want to start telling you what I think this looks like.MAC Style Clan (3)

Jessica Glitterati - great idea, but such a failure. I pretty much hated how it looked like on the nail. The only thing left to say is, WHY?!OPI Just spotted the lizzard_Jessica Glitterati_2

GOSH Ocean. Eeeeuh. It’s too much of everything. Too many brush strokes, too much color, too much, just too much. GOSH Ocean (1)

Barielle Out-grey-geous. Can’t even deal with this after I stamped over it. It’s completely boring and unfitting, and then, why the many “-” in the name? Barielle Out-grey-geous_stampet wnw I need a refresh-mint (2)

I thought I’d never have complaints about yellow polish, but Nicole by OPI Yellow it’s me changed my mind. I tried it alone, over white, over yellow – the orange/red glow in it just ruins it for me, apart from it being so sheer. In the same area is essence peach beauty (fruity TE) – I mean come on, patchy, sheer orange? Hell no! There’s no excuse for sheer yellow nail polish. Polish makers of the world, unite, and fight against this nuisance! NOPI Yellow it's me (1)

The extra awards for horrible application go to Face of Australia Verdigris (bubbles in metallic, streaky military green) and Sinful Colors Cinderella (patchy shimmery light blue, impossible to make opaque without it looking as if it ran down your tips).face of australia verdigris (1)

I wish you all a great New Year’s Eve and a good start into the new year. Hope your hangovers won’t be too bad, and that you all have someone to kiss at midnight.
