Sunday Spam: OPI pink & red

Well, I hope you’re enjoying your sunday! Meanwhile I am working on emptying my swatch folders, so I’m showing you a couple of pink and red OPI/NOPI/SOPI polishes today.

OPI I’m all ears, from the Minnie Mouse Collection (LOVE Minnie and Mickey!) over Jessica Strawberry Fields. I had no patience to apply multiple coats of this beautiful but sheer raspberry red glassfleck. Beautiful, but not unique, I think.
Jessica Strawberry Fields_OPI Im all ears_1

NOPI Great Minds Pink Alike, a coral Creme with glassfleck-y shimmer. Love the idea, and that it covers perfectly in 2 coats, but the coral looks stripper-y on me.
NOPI Great Minds Pink Alike_11

OPI Aphrodite’s pink Nightie is really old (in polish years). It is part of the Greek Isles (?) collection from 2004. It is frosty and pink, and no-one likes colors like this anymore, but I love it. I am weird sometimes and it has been on more than one occasion, that people told me that my taste was interesting. 2 coats.
OPI Aphrodite's Pink Nightie_2

OPI Charged up Cherry is extremely difficult to capture. My lightbox, skintone and the fact that this is almost neon, do not do it any good. It looks washed out in my pictures – somehow unsatisfying. I will try to show you in an How I wore it post soon. 2 coats.
OPI Charged up Cherry_1

OPI If you moust, you moust – I love this flawless pink, and the application is great. Perfect bubblegum pink – the only downside is that it doesn’t really suit me. I was really sad when I realized that! I kept it anyway. 2 coats.
OPI If you moust you moust_1

OPI Pompeii Purple is one of those pinks I wear over and over. It dries just the slightest bit streaky, and needs three coats, but it glows! It has this blue shimmer over a very vibrant pink, but it’s not too much and doesn’t look too girly. One of my favorite summer pinks!
OPI Pompeii Purple_2

OPI Schnapps out of it. I don’t know if you  have heard this before, but I hate hate hate medium brown nailpolish (and clothes). This one has a somewhat orange-pink tint, but it’s definitely mostly brown. The silver shimmer can’t safe it for me. Good thing is that the application is easy and it needs 2 coats. Nevertheless, in my eyes, horrible color. Also, it is pretty useless to tell someone to snap out of something when drinking schnapps. I tried and failed.

OPI The color of Minnie. This is a wonderful, wonderful strawberry red, with intense silver shimmer, application is a dream, and it just looks amazing. Eternal love. 2 coats.OPI The color of Minnie_1

spotted!

Due to my need to look respectable, knowledgeable and presentable at work, I go head over heels absurdly crazy on the weekend when I can wear whatever on my nails, because I will only get the weird looks from my friends. Hence, the only logical conclusion is to wear all the neon colors I can think of at once, right?Cult Nails Deal with it_ChG In the limelight_ChG Pool Party_NOPI Lemon-Lime Twist_Milani Hi-Tech_essie funky limelight_Color Club Jingle Jangle_Claires Sandart_Illamasqua Stance1

I started off with two coats of wet’n'wild white creme and then randomly brushed on different colors. I can tell you, it looked very artistic and grown up. I’m now going to name all the polishes I used, so enjoy…Cult Nails Deal with it, China Glaze In the limelight, China Glaze Pool Party, NOPI Lemon-Lime Twist, Milani Hi-Tech, essie funky limelight, Color Club Jingle Jangle, Claires Sandart, and Illamasqua Stance.

Yeah, and then I used OPI Spotted over this. This was fun, but due to the fact that I used so many layers of polish, it didn’t dry very well and later that day I bumped into something and I took this off the day after. But still, every once in a while, I enjoy wearing crazy stuff!Cult Nails Deal with it_ChG In the limelight_ChG Pool Party_NOPI Lemon-Lime Twist_Milani Hi-Tech_essie funky limelight_Color Club Jingle Jangle_Claires Sandart_Illamasqua Stance_OPI Black Spotted_2 Cult Nails Deal with it_ChG In the limelight_ChG Pool Party_NOPI Lemon-Lime Twist_Milani Hi-Tech_essie funky limelight_Color Club Jingle Jangle_Claires Sandart_Illamasqua Stance_OPI Black Spotted_3 Cult Nails Deal with it_ChG In the limelight_ChG Pool Party_NOPI Lemon-Lime Twist_Milani Hi-Tech_essie funky limelight_Color Club Jingle Jangle_Claires Sandart_Illamasqua Stance_OPI Black Spotted_4

Iconic half-moon manicure

Juuuust a quick post today. I wanted to show you a manicure I did for a special occasion, but I forgot which one. It wasn’t Christmas or New Year’s, I remember that much… see what to many free days and overly much relaxing time do to us…!
I started off with two coats of Diorling, one of the polishes from the Dior Winter Edition (Grand Bal). Diorling is mostly a golden polish, but it has some lighter golden and copper specks within, and it is a unique gold polish in my collection. Believe me, I have quite some gold polishes – I just love them all too much!

Diorling applied just fine. There’s nothing special to say about that, so one can concentrate on its beauty. If you even remotely like gold, and you have any chance to get this one still, do. Disregard the fact that the bottle looks like a weird mushroom. Disregard that it is surprisingly expensive. Just know that Dior does the best nuances of gold I’ve seen so far. half moon cult nails iconic_dior diorling_NOPI_1

I wanted to try half-moons for longer now, so I painted them with Cult Nails Iconic, which is a deep red filled with flakes, hence it’s as if it was made to pair with Diorling (ha.ha.ha. on that word-joke btw). On my ring finger I decided to apply some gold glitter from Nicole by OPI, which is a fairly boring yellow gold glitter, but I ought to have at least one such glitter in my collection, and this one applied best. half moon cult nails iconic_dior diorling_NOPI_2

All in all I like the - manicure, but free handing it is difficult. I tried it with half a ring sticker, but that didn’t work for me either. I guess practise is the key!

Worst polishes of 2012

While everybody else is out there praising their 2012  favourites, I decided to give you a random list of “worsts”! The main reason for this is that there are too many polishes I liked in 2012, and the other reason is that I enjoy being mean sometimes – and this will give me the perfect opportunity. You can disagree with me and let me know which polishes you didn’t like this year!

As a general info: Worst of 2012 refers to polishes I wore in 2012, not necessarily ones that were brought out in 2012. Let’s get started!

Pretty much everything from the Catrice Hidden World LE. brown, salmon and frosty white – no thank you!Catrice Hidden World_Wood You Follow Me

OPI Play the Peonies. Okay, so I liked Chanel Attraction, but this is also more pink. Frosty, white-ish pink. Brrr.OPI Play the Peonies (1)

Revlon Mint Gelato. Sheer dusty turquoise, unbearable smell (and I love mint!): overall performance could not convince (that was very diplomatic).Revlon Mint Gelato1

I like the idea of  NYX Precious Gems, but the execution lacks… skills? experience? love? ideas? Well, you pick.zoya marley_NYX precious gems1

Models Own Dusty Mauve - they name already gives this one away. Not much I can say or do that will make it cry harder.Models Own Dusty Mauve2

It pains me to say it, but Orly Artificial Sweetener only looks good in the bottle. I gave it chance after chance, but it just looks yuck on me. Even though it is pink!Orly Artificial Sweetener_unnamed franken2

essence Rebel Topcoat in Punk Royal  (and Catrice No smoke without fire): jelly black doesn’t work. AT ALL. Even if it has glitter in it. Ooooh I think these two might win the ugliest of ugly award.  Looks like black snot or slime over my nails! *shudders*essence rebel delight punk royal

OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes. This is not a decent or elegant version of brown, this is ugly. Same goes for Nubar Charmeuse -  just because Nubar makes it a bit more difficult to call this plain brown, it is freakishly boring (and ugly). And, a bit more mauve but still too brown for me: OPI Mauving to Manitoba. OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes

Glitter Gal Flawless Pink is everything but flawless. At least it’s holographic, but it’s definitely not flawless (and, to be honest, it’s not much pink either).glitter gal flawless pink1

MAC Style Clan - poop brown with orange glitter – it can’t get much worse. Oh, wait! Short nails make it look extra bad. I don’t even want to start telling you what I think this looks like.MAC Style Clan (3)

Jessica Glitterati - great idea, but such a failure. I pretty much hated how it looked like on the nail. The only thing left to say is, WHY?!OPI Just spotted the lizzard_Jessica Glitterati_2

GOSH Ocean. Eeeeuh. It’s too much of everything. Too many brush strokes, too much color, too much, just too much. GOSH Ocean (1)

Barielle Out-grey-geous. Can’t even deal with this after I stamped over it. It’s completely boring and unfitting, and then, why the many “-” in the name? Barielle Out-grey-geous_stampet wnw I need a refresh-mint (2)

I thought I’d never have complaints about yellow polish, but Nicole by OPI Yellow it’s me changed my mind. I tried it alone, over white, over yellow – the orange/red glow in it just ruins it for me, apart from it being so sheer. In the same area is essence peach beauty (fruity TE) – I mean come on, patchy, sheer orange? Hell no! There’s no excuse for sheer yellow nail polish. Polish makers of the world, unite, and fight against this nuisance! NOPI Yellow it's me (1)

The extra awards for horrible application go to Face of Australia Verdigris (bubbles in metallic, streaky military green) and Sinful Colors Cinderella (patchy shimmery light blue, impossible to make opaque without it looking as if it ran down your tips).face of australia verdigris (1)

I wish you all a great New Year’s Eve and a good start into the new year. Hope your hangovers won’t be too bad, and that you all have someone to kiss at midnight.

Best Pink Ever at the beach

Today I have a special post for you!

If you read what I write and not only look at the pictures, you might have read that I spent my vacation in India. This time I went to a couple of places in Goa. I will not tell you at which beach I made these pictures, because I want it to stay deserted – I can be egoistic sometimes. I prefer to call it ‘being protective’ though.
Back to the polish: This is Best Pink Ever by Nicole by OPI. It is not, just in case you were wondering. I have a slight hunch that this is a marketing strategy.

There is a best in this post though, and it is the beach. I haven’t had a real beach vacation in so long, I was looking forward to it overly much. Real beach vacation equals white sand, luxurious hotel, great sundowns and cocktails. Oh yeah, and the sea of course. Luckily, all that was present (with a little minus on the cocktails – they tried, but failed terribly), so the next vacation I’ll take doesn’t necessarily need to include a beach. NOPI Best Pink Ever_6

I took only a couple of nail polishes with me, mostly because we were travelling a lot, and I knew I wouldn’t have time to change my nail polish a lot. I picked Best Pink Ever because it is pink, and I love pink, and also because the NOPI bottles, ugly as they are, seem to be quite sturdy.NOPI Best Pink Ever_2

Best Pink Ever is a slight duochrome (don’t look for it if you have glasses, it is very hidden). It is also a bit sheer, so I ended up using three coats.NOPI Best Pink Ever_4

When I was taking pictures, most of the people around thought I was crazy. Generally speaking, people take fun vacation fotos of say, the beach, themselves, sand, footprints in the sand, sundown, etc. It is still very uncommon to bring nail polish to the beach and above that, to be so impertinent to even take pictures of said nail polish! Unbelieveable!NOPI Best Pink Ever_3

I hope I didn’t make you too jealous. If so, you might not want to read my next How I wore it post.

Sunday Spam – Pinks, Pinks, Pinks!

Sunday! Day of peace and quiet and the Sunday Spam! Leave me a comment and tell me which polish you like best… I’m nosy, I want to know!

Nicole by OPI You’re an angel is a super gorgeous coral glassfleck, which amazes be because of the golden hue. Unfortunately for me, coral makes my hands look weird, but I couldn’t resist this anyhow. Three coats, it it a bit on the sheer side.

Sephora by OPI Miss Bossy Pants is from the Glee Collection – it’s a mini, so I was a bit reluctanct to wear it – SOPI minis really are mini. I liked wearing it, but it is not unique in my stash – think OPI Pompeii Purple for example. 2 coats.

OPI Strawberry Margerita is one of my oldest and dearly beloved-st pinks. It dries super glossy, is vibrant, happy and easy to apply. 2 coats.

OPI Let me entertain you – 3 coats – is a blue based glassfleck pink. As it is a glassfleck, it looks deep and glossy – sparkly in sunlight – but somehow we didn’t totally click. I had to wear it a couple of times to find out, but eventually, I didn’t want to be entertained.

OPI I’m Indi-a Mood for Love is another one of my “old” pinks – it’s from the India Collection, where from I love all the polishes, and it’s a blue based pink creme, which fits me very well. Two coats, and if you don’t have a standard pink creme, get this one. Period.

OPI Houston we have a Purple isn’t purple. I don’t know why it would be names purple… anyhow, this is a jelly (OPI calls them “sorbets”) in a gorgous deep pink (I’d say it’s a lighter raspberry pink). Three coats and look how glossy it is!!

OPI Be a Dahlia won’t you? is another blue toned glassfleck pink. The blue/silverish hue is more present in this one than in Let me Entertain you. If you search for a picture of a Dahlia, you’ll find that this is just a tad darker than the flower. 2 coats.

Which one is your favourite?

Sunday Spam: OPI, SOPI and NOPI Red and Orange

I hope you like the Sunday Spams! Ialways love scrolling through the PolishAholic’s Spam Posts, especially on a lazy Sunday morning.

For this Sunday I chose to show you members of the red-family. Some of them are brothers and sisters, some far away cousins – but as it is family, who cares..!

SOPI Go with the Flow-er. I have already reviewed this once, no idea when (edit: here), but when I wore it again I remembered just how much I adore this color. It is super vibrant

OPI My Adress is Hollywood – pinkish coral with a shimmer. It’s too pink for me, as in, it has some undertones in there that make it not work with my skintone at all. Too bad, I saw it on other blogs and it looked as if it would be exactly in my predator prey system. 2 coats.

OPI Lunch at the Delhi is a coral creme with yellow undertones (it almost looks tomato red/orange) from the famous India collection. I love all the colors that came out in this collection. 2 coats – I’m wearing this often, even though that sounds unbelievable, considering the amount of polish I own.  You must relativize everything I say, obviously, you’re reading an addict’s blog (which you should also, please, put into perspective).

SOPI New Year’s Red-Solution – shimmery red with a golden glow, almost berry punch colored. 2 coats (it is one of my favourite reds, just so you know).

NOPI Fresh Squeezed – gleaming orange. I’m not sure if these are golden flakes in there or if it is a orange glassfleck – in any case, this is a vibrant, juicy orange. 3 coats.

OPI Brisbane Bronze. I think this isn’t really bronze, but more of a mauve/brown shimmer mishmash. I didn’t like this very much – the color seems stale and antiquated to me. 2 coats.

OPI I eat Mainly Lobster – I really wanted this to work on me, but it didn’t. Instead, this screams “sex worker” in a very cliche, politically incorrect way if I wear it. Sorry, but this lobster isn’t for me. 2 coats.

OPI Gettin’ Miss Piggy with it over OPI Lunch at the Delhi- I was totally excited for the Muppet Glitters last winter, but in the end I didn’t really like them. The larger silver glitters offend my picky eyes – I would have loved this if it wasn’t for those silver spots. 1 coat.

Last but definitely not least: OPI DS Reflection. This might not be holographic, but it surely is such an amazing berry red!!! I absolutely, utterly, deeply love this. The little ‘diamond’ glitters in it ensure that the color never gets boring. Oh, dear DS Reflection, I admire your beauty. 2 coats.

Yellow & Green SPAM

How is everyone? My stay here in Paris is almost over, and I have been photographing and polishing for you – stay tuned and get excited!

Today I have a yellow and green spam post for you. Generally I can say that yellows have a difficult formula. I haven’t met many yellows that apply easily and level out etc. Nevertheless, yellow is one of my favorite colors, and I can’t stay away from it!

Nicole by OPI One Voice. 3 coats. One voice is a shimmery egg yolk colored polish, and a very warm color as well.

Nicole by OPI Yellow it’s me is a super sheer medium yellow with a lot of orange and red sparkle. This is three coats, and I still had VNL. Next time I will layer it!

OPI Fiercly Fiona is a yellow creme leaning towards a more dirty, mustard colored shade. It’s not the regular yellow and that makes it so pretty! I am wearing two coats in this picture.

OPI Gargantuan Green Grape is the perfect pistachio creme. It is a pain to apply though, I used three thin coats but it didn’t level out properly so some parts are thicker on my nail than others. I adore the color, never mind the bad formula!

Sephora by OPI Completely Fern-ished is a really dark algae colored green. It’s very shiny and due to the fact that it is so dark, it is very elegant. I used two coats.

Sephora by OPI Gleek Out was part of the Glee Collection, obviously. Its a light olive colored polish, which looks almost metallic. I lovelovelove the color. If I wouldn’t only love it for its color, then the golden metallic shimmer would have stolen my heart for sure. 2 coats.

Nicole by OPI Make Mine Lime is a medium grass green polish with intense silver shimmer. I liked the color but I didn’t find it too amazing. 3 coats as the polish is on the sheer side.

Did you see anything you liked?

Turquoise and Blue SPAM

Hi everyone! I have a couple of color themed SPAM posts left, but then I should be through most of my swatch pics! And I told you earlier, I am working on How I wore it posts, and there is a whole bunch of them following soon.

Nicole by OPI Iceberg Lotus. It is gorgeous. It’s turquoise, it’s sparkly, shiny, even though it isn’t really duo chrome as one would expect from the look of the bottle. I am happy to have this in my collection! 2 coats.

Sephora by OPI Carribean Cocktail is a medium blue metallic polish, interspersed with golden foil particles. It looks much better in the bottle than on me, but I enjoyed wearing it nevertheless. 2 coats (and it didn’t work very well for stamping, I must add).

Sephora by OPI Club Scene Queen is a very dark teal, almost blackened. It looks very elegant and fits one of my ballroom dancing dresses perfectly, I was so happy! 2 coats for full coverage.

Sephora by OPI Mermaid to Order was one of those polishes I really wanted to have, but it turns out to be streaky and not to look good on me. It’s a perfect mermaid color though! 2 coats.

OPI See ya later Sailor was also on my wish list for a longer time, but when I got it I was surprised by how sheer and not duo chrome it is. I layered it over Catrice New York, which you can see on its own here. 1 coat of See ya later sailor over New York.

Quite the opposite happened to me when I got my hands on OPI Sonic Bloom. I love it. I’m wearing it over Catrice New York as well, and look how pretty it is! I love it! Deeply!

OPI Ski teal we drop is a dark teal creme. It was amongst my first OPIs, and it is gorgeous for layering too. There’s really nothing I could complain about with this polish – I think everyone needs something like it in their stash! 2 coats.

OPI Teal the Cows come home was a polish I bought in my blue phase. I expected much more from it than just being an aqua colored, slightly streaky polish. Not my cup of tea, unfortunately. Also, it took four thin coats to be opaque!

OPI Yodel me on my cell is another polish from the Swiss Collection, and it’s a lighter, shimmery version of Ski Teal we drop. I like it, but not outstandingly much. 2 coats.

OPI Austin-tatious Turquoise is a polish I received as a gift from my friend E. I love unexpected polish gifts! It looks like the child of NOPI Iceberg Lotus (above) and OPI Teal the cows come home (also above). I very much wanted to like it, as it  was a gift, but it’s not my color. Nevertheless, very sparkly, ver shiny and no visible brush strokes! 2 coats.

OPI Breathe life (again over Catrice New York) is a super sheer light blue shimmer polish. It looks very nice over greys and blues, and it obviously works over black too. It’s more opaque than the CND topcoats, and if you have the patience of applying multiple coats, you can wear it on its own. I like it better than See ya later, sailor (above) but not as much as Sonic Bloom (also above). 1 coat.

Go on Green, also from OPI, is another sheer polish, but unlike Breathe Life it leans more towards turquoise. The brush strokes show up a bit more too, but it has this amazing glow about it which I really adore. 1 coat over Catrice New York.

So that was a huge blue and turquoise spam post! Do you have favorites out of the ones I showed you?

Ivana, Savita and Kendall on a cloud

There is something about Nicole by OPI Kendall on the Katwalk that makes swoon every time I see it. It is just so pretty – blue, teal and purple glitters mixed together in a perfect ratio, looking just too awesome to be true. As I don’t watch much television, I was not up to date as of the existence of the Kardashians, but I “educated” myself after I was told about them – and therefore spent 5 minutes of my life absolutely and utterly uselessly, but now I discovered a television show called pretty little liars, so I seem to get the hang of procrastinating. Anyways, Kendall on the Katwalk stole my polish heart. I only needed 2 coats for full coverage too!

I had worn the glitter for a bit too long and I started to have tip wear, so I decided to try a cloud design again. It is rather easy to do and covers tip wear perfectly! The purple I used is one of the Zoya polishes that dry matte; it is called Savita. The green is Zoya Ivanka.

Originally this was supposed to be a How I wore it post but all the pictures turned out horrible except for this one (even though not exactly a beauty either – but it isn’t the beast, at least). I am wearing a jacket from Cora Kemperman, my favorite Dutch designer, and also most probably the only one I can afford.
Are you also head over heels for Kendall on the Katwalk?
