ANNY Ocean Blue vs. China Glaze Shower together

Just a quick comparison post for you today – ANNY Ocean Blue versus my long time lemming China Glaze Shower together.

ANNY is a brand much easier accessible to us Austrian nail polish lovers. They have received quite some attention with their beautiful deep red polish The answer is love. I decided that this looked very close to China Glaze Shower together, one of my favorite medium ocean blues. Shower together has a bit of a teal-ish look depending on how the light hits, and the formula is just great.ANNY Ocean Blue_ChG Shower together3

Can you tell which one is which? The picture above is made in sunlight, the picture below shows the tealish side of Shower together a bit better – it was made inside, under a regular lamp light. Shower together is on my pinky and ring finger. ANNY Ocean Blue_ChG Shower together1

In the flash light you can tell them apart if you know what to look for, but the ANNY polish is holding up very well. In terms of formula, I preferred the China Glaze, but it was only marginally better to apply than the ANNY polish. I think we might have two polishes so close, that we could call them dupes!ANNY Ocean Blue_ChG Shower together2

Sunday Spam: Nail Art ‘exercises’

This Sunday I won’t show you a color family or a special brand, no, I’ll show you my stamping and nail art exercises that never made it on the blog as a full post. Some of them are recent, but most of them are long ago so please ignore the variating nail lengths. Hope you’ll enjoy!

[if you want to see more, or stuff more recent, follow me on instagram: @goodlacknail  and/or twitter:.@goodlacknail]

butter LONDON Disco Biscuit (over Dior Lucky) has blue microspecks in the pink jelly base, so I figured, why not point that out and add blue hearts? The Image is from the Red Angel Plate #114, and I have absolutely no clue what I used as a stamping polish. Most probably my beloved sally hansen quick  Color Quick Fast Dry Nail Color Pen in blue.

Urban Decay Miss T (goooorgeous blue toned pink, shimmery, 2 coats), stamped with the golden sally hansen Color Quick Fast Dry Nail Color Pen (it really is a mouthfull…!). No idea where the image was from, but I do remember the tragic and sudden death of my middle finger nail that led to those super nubs.

Candy Wrapper Nails! Some coral creme polish, topped with Nfu-Oh 049 (the flakies!), and again stamped with the golden sally hansen Color Quick Fast Dry Nail Color Pen and an unknown image from an unknown plate. Very awesome manicure if you ask me.

Not an exact failure but also not a success was the combination of sally hansen be-jewelled and the stamping design. Maybe I shouldn’t have picked black as a stamping color, or I should have picked a more subtle design, but this didn’t last long on me, as I assume you can understand.

In my eyes, p2 Night Out is one of the best dusty dove-colored cremes there are. Hence the crooked gradient with H&M Confetti Kisses, Spoiled Use Protection and Deborah Lippmann Mermaid’s Dream looked awesome too and I wore it until it had almost grown out. We both know I’m exaggerating, but we also know that “long” is relative, no?

This was actually my Christmas manicure last year. For more entertaining pics, click here.

Horrible picture but I still love the combination and idea: Girly Bits Razzle Dazzle, 2 coats, stamped with a Red Angel image (don’t know which plate # anymore, sorry) – the image looks as if it was floating atop a ping sea of glitters. I’ll have to re-create this sometimes!

Same as above, I don’t remember which stamping plate this was, but I loved the subtle image over Chanel Peridot.

Chanel Attraction was not loved as much as I think it should have been loved, mainly because it is a frosty pearl white, and, as you can see, dries streaky – maybe I’m weird sometimes, but I love it despite it being streaky and frosty. Somehow this made me want to experiment with dots, so I used ANNY Ocean Blue, sally hansen teal-y fast and Funky Fingers Blue Raspberry Taffy and this is what came out. A dot gradient? Shall we call it that?

Yellow SPAM

Despite the lack of sunshine outside, it’s Friday and Fridays are happy days. Who doesn’t love the end of the week?

My go-to happy color is yellow. I love yellow shoes and bags and, obviously, yellow nails. Today I am showing you some of the yellows I recently wore.

ANNY Sunshine my heart is a yellow creme, very close to the Van Gogh sunflower yellow. I used two coats of it and it levels out better than other yellows. On my ring finger I am wearing a coat of OPI Lemonade Stand by your Man over one coat of Sunshine my heart.

essence Wanna be your sunshine (still in the old bottle!) is also a creme yellow, but just a tad lighter than ANNY sunshine my heart. I used 3 thin coats and it was a bit of a pain to apply. Luckily a thick coat of SV made it even and helped with the dry time.

YSL La Laque 138 is from the -I think-  2011 summer collection. It’s a shimmery polish, again a sunflower yellow, and it applies very easily and smoothly. Nothing much to say about it, except that if you are a yellow fan like me, you shouldn’t pass this one up!

Any that you like particularly?

The Wild Thing Ruffian

I’m still not over the ruffians. I don’t wear them all the time, but sometimes I really feel like it and then it has to be colorful – which explains my choice of colors for this Ruffian manicure.

As a base I used ANNY Yellow Cab Flash which is a soft pastel yellow. Application is the same as all pastel yellows (aka pretty shitty, even though I try to deny it for the sake of the pretty yellow), but since I’m wearing it as a ruffian, I didn’t mind too much. I used two coats and waited for it to dry. Meanwhile I decided that I would need to use Pure Ice Wild Thing for the Ruffian because the pastel yellow was too cute and I wanted some edge. One coat of Wild Thing was enough for good coverage!

Afterwards I felt like flakies would look awesome on top of this and therefore I picked up Fingerpaints Motley. The flakies don’t show up too much, so this isn’t super flashy, and I’m happy with the effect.

What do you think? Ruffians: hot or not?

ANNY, Oscar and Love

You know, I hate when this happens: I go into a shop, mind set on one polish, wallet set to not spit out more money than for one, and then I pass by something super pretty, I calculate a bit, I debate a bit with myself and schwupps all my principles go overboard. Luckily I don’t have that very often…! I’d have to start selling my organs!

So thanks to my brain justifying this purchase, I’m able to show you today: ANNY Oscar’s Choice, a super beautiful red, which is shiny, you won’t believe it. ANNY is sold at Douglas here in Austria, and retails for 9,95€, just in case you wanted to know. I used two coats, and I while the golden shimmer doesn’t transfer onto the nail as I thought it would, I have to say I really like this colour. In the picture I took with flash, Oscar’s Choice looks completely different. Thought you might enjoy this:

I also bought another ANNY nail polish that day…. The Answer Is Love. It is a dark purple/aubergine, but it has this amazing look of depth and when the sun hits it, it sparkles red and purple. The first coat looks as if the polish would turn out blue, but then after the second coat it turns out to be as you see below. I was super impresses by this polish and must admit that I bought it again to send to a friend. That doesn’t happen so often! On the other hand I can’t say anything about it’s uniqueness because I d0n’t have that many polishes in this colour family. I’m not a vampy kind of girl I guess…

What do you think about my new ANNYs? Do you own any ANNY polishes? Do you like them?

battle time! ANNY vs models own

*news reporter voice*

Hello and welcome to this weeks’ battle time! Today we want to see if models own pro will be able to defeat ANNY. Or, will the underdog rise and win? Make your bet and join us to see the battle of the year!

Ok, back to normal. I compared models own pro “Mellow Yellow” with ANNY 373 “Yellow Cab Flash” which I bought some time back.  I love a good pastel yellow, so I couldn’t resist either. Unluckily for me, my friend B. insisted on taking one off my hands, so what was I to do? :)

In daylight the polish in the bottles look pretty much the same, don’t you think?

I can tell that I’m wearing 2 different polishes, but even though the Models own pro (on pinkie and ringfinger) is a lighter, more tendings towards white colour, it doesn’t matter much. The ANNY polish requires one additional coat – it is a jelly, hence it needs more coats for opacity. Application wise I can’t complain with either – it’s pastel yellow after all, and the application wasn’t horrifying. The ANNY polish dries more glossy than the models own, and I think the models own looks thicker.

So, here are swatches of today’s battle: Left: ANNY Yellow Cab Flash, Right: models own pro Mellow Yellow.

above: daylight, below: artificial light no flash (and left & right are reversed, as the pic is upside down.) further below: artificial light, flash.

I bought my models own pro in a set of three on asos.com. The ANNY polish I found in a Douglas in Zagreb, Croatia, and I don’t know if it is in the ANNY core line. I did not find it here in Vienna yet. ANNY polishes retail for ~10€, the models own set of three was 12€ on sale.

I personally prefer the ANNY. It is more jellyish and looks softer on me – also, if I want the same look as the models own pro polish, I can just layer it over white!

Which one would you have kept?

Eggnogg

How was your Christmas Eve? We Austrians celebrate Christmas on the 24th in the evening, tree & all, dinner, family get-together, great. Theres obviously always something that goes wrong, but we wouldn’t be human without Murphy’s Law, wouldn’t we?

I received a lot of cool presents, and I hope so did you! I also gave away quite a few awesome ones – at least that’s what I think.
Since Christmas is over, but there are some cookies still uneaten and some eggnogg left in the bottles, I have a polish for you that reminds me of eggnogg and cookie icing. It is called Yellow Cab Flash, and the polish is by ANNY. I don’t think Yellow Cab Flash is in anyway a proper name for it, I would have accepted eggshell, easter, little chicken, summer dress, ecru, something cute, whatever, but not Yellow Cab Flash. I mean, obviously, the person who picked the name must have been colour blind! Yellow cabs are differently yellow. Tzzz. I must defend all yellows!

Okay, before I get lost, here’s the polish. The first coat is so sheer, I have to tell you I was disappointed. I thought I’d never get this to equal out and be opaque. But, Lo and behold! The second coat already rewards you: the polish is now opaque. I did a third coat because I didn’t want to risk any camera-generated VNL, so there you go: 3 coats of the softest, squishy-ish, cute pastel yellow I’ve ever seen.

above: daylight, below: artificial light, no flash

Uuuh, I love this. I’ll go to find me some eggnogg now. And sugar coated candies. How about you?

30 days of untrieds – Day 26: ANNY sky bar

Day 26 of the Challenge! It is almost over, and it wasn’t even half as exhausting as I thought it would be.

Today I have not only an untried polish for you, but a whole untried brand! ANNY is a nail polish brand available at Douglas, which is a cosmetics store you can find in Austria, Germany and The Netherlands (Let me know if you have seen it in other countries!). I was told by one of the sales personnel that ANNY is their in-house brand, but I’m not sure of it. In any case, the polishes come in a 15ml square glass bottle, very stylish in a deborah-lippmann-sense.

The first two ANNY polishes I received were from my dear friend N., who just came by some of them and thought of me. I have nice friends, no? Today I want to show you “sky bar”, an icy blue polish which I picked out for me and for my friend M., who will receive this any day now!

It’s a little on the sheer side, so I used 3 coats.above: daylight, below: artificial light, no flash / artificial light, flash.

What do you think of sky bar? Do you own any ANNY polishes?

And, are you going to spend some time at Christmas markets this weekend? I surely am going to! I love the time leading up to Christmas (in German, we call it “Advent”!).

Blogger Challenge PINK: Day 5 – Beginner’s Luck

Nail Polish Blogger Challenge

If you aren’t yet following my facebook page, here’s the link - there are picture albums of my swatches and I heard a little bird sing that there’ll be a giveaway soon!

Good morning and welcome to a new day of the PINK challenge! You all know how much I love pink, so wearing pink for a week hasn’t been as hard on me as it may have been on other challenge participants – but we’re all happy that we picked pink for this month is breast cancer awareness month!

I love the look of water marbled nails, but I tried once before, and it was a mess. I didn’t have problems regarding the polish sticking to my nails, my greatest problem was to pick polishes that won’t just drip into the water and sink to the bottom. I found it immensely difficult to get the polish to make rings so I could attempt some kind of design. Frustrated, I gave up and decided, we were not made for each other.

Dry water marbling hasn’t worked for me either. I’m to impatient to wait for the design to dry on the plastic and cut it out! If you have no idea what I’m talking about, leave me a comment, and I’m willing to make a “How to NOT do it” tutorial. I’m very, very successful in failing all kinds of nail art.

This nail art however, let’s call it “needle marbling” for a lack of a better name, is as easy as it can get. Here is what I did  – just have a look at the pictures and decide for yourself if it worked for me or not!

with flash

I painted my nails white, and waited for that to dry completely. Then I chose 2 additional polishes to my OPI Do you think I’m Tex-y? – I wanted something funky, so I chose Illamasqua Collide and ANNY Yellow Cab Flash. I then painted 3 lines on my nail, one of each colour; make sure you use excessive amounts of polish, otherwise you’ll just end up with 3 stripes on your nails. You’ll have to work rather quickly, otherwise the polishes won’t marble nicely! Take a needle, and start your design. I just went from left to right and back again through the polishes, but when I’m doing this again, I’m going to try hearts and other designs! Do one nail after the other, and once you’re done with all, apply some quick drying topcoat. It is a good idea to not apply the topcoat immediately, because it might smear your design.

So, before I bore you with my “instructions”, here are my first needle marble designs!

Daylightartificial lightdaylight

here are close-ups of my nails. The pictures didn’t turn out all perfectly and sharp, but I wanted to give you an idea….

Right now I’m busy designing the nails on my other hand, I wonder how that turns out, since I’m right-handed…! Wish me luck, and be sure to comment with your experiences on marbling!!
